African-American Supermodels JESSICA WHITE and MEHCAD BROOKS

Wassup everyone, in light of me going to model rehearsal this afternoon, I just thought I post up some pictures of some excellent and prominent Black supermodels: Jessica White and Mehcad Brooks. Look, there are many more awesome black models out there, but I just picked these two out of chance... I think.

But the real thing is... Jessica White always catches my eye as the fun, sexy, anything-goes kind of girl, and Mehcad Brooks is the model I look up to for business orientation and physique.

So check out some of their photos that are of inspiration and are very interesting (light, proportion, angles, etc.)

TATYANA ALI's Sequined Party Dress Is Muy Fabuloso!!!

Ladies, wanna look HOTT on a night out with your girls?
Guys, want your lady in this dress?

Yess, sequined dresses are making an entrance in 2011. Not so much last year because women had their own kind of style that shyed far away from the GLITZ, but definitive trends are really shaping up around one material: SEQUINS. There are dresses, shoes, jackets that we have yet to see, but for one, check out Tatyana Ali (from "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air") in her sequined dress.

When I see this dress, I can't help but to speak Spanish....
'MUY CALIENTE!'

KATE MIDDLETON's Royal Style

In every country, there's a certain woman of recognition and power who is looked upon as a staple of the nation. For the United States, it's first lady Michelle Obama. For the newest royal couple soon to be wed, it's Kate Middleton.

Her royal style is often notable for being not too 'traditional' but just right for any occasion, kind of like Mrs. Obama. So I just want to briefly show you a few selections of Kate Middleton's wardrobe that I found to be nice; I will use this for my upcoming WOMEN's LOOKBOOK:

These are simple, on-the-go, can't-go-wrong looks fit for women around the world.

When a lady steps out, she must turn heads with her smile, her subtle curves, her free-flowing dress that flatters her body and renders her a mysterious, sexy princess *Nice play on words, JAIDEN -LoL-*

Now, just waiting to see what else she's wearing on the days leading up to the Royal Wedding at Westminster Abbey on April 29, 2011... THE ONLY JAIDEN will keep you updated the Only Jaiden way.

Lil' KOURTNEY KARDASHIAN In Her 6-inch Blue LOUBOUTINS

The Kardashians are always being spotted just walking around town; that alone is news and fetches thousands of dollars for photos. Well, if I caught a photo of one of them myself, you can be sure it would be sold so I can pay some bills *LoL*

Well here's Kourtney Kardashian lookin' hott, but just slightly "off-center" with her high contrast Christian Louboutin "Change of the Guard" Platform sandals for a smidge over $1,660. Kourtney's whole outfit would look even better if she had paired her bright blue Louboutins with a fringed blazer that's the same color and vibe as the shoes (to balance it out), and wear simply all-black (no patterns/print designs) to keep the focus flowing from top to bottom.

Ladies, How would YOU rock this?

Sunday Lane- Bring Me Sunshine

Strange looks followed me home on the train as I just couldn't help singing. I am not sure if the looks were for the off key whining noise that constitutes my singing or for the catchy, poetic words of Sunday Lane. Bring Me Sunshine is one of those special albums where upon hitting play, you know you will like the entire thing. This thought was confirmed after three back to back plays.

There is nothing wrong with this classical pianists musical talents. The music is varied, but not so much so that the transition of songs seems out of place and choppy. The melody is smooth, free and heartfelt, a few bars into "Heavy Hand Heavy Heart"  and you want to cry. The guitar is crisp and is clearly done be someone with talent. The whole thing feels very well practised and clean, no accidental slip of a finger, no chord struck to hard, perfection. If you like your music performed to unbelievably high standards, this is where you will find it. It is acoustic, but not the rough hill billy sort, with polished piano dominating. The set up is simple and sometimes simplicity yields good results, this is one of those times.

Sunday Lane's voice reminds me a little of a softer Julia Stone (no one shoot me!). It isn't as rough but still holds that raspy-ness that makes it distinctive and makes all that she sings sound very soulful.

My reasoning for liking this album is straight forward- lyrics. There are no light airy fairy songs on this album each one is relevant or makes you think about what is being sung to you in a distinctive, beautiful voice. It is almost as if you are having a good chat with her, just in music form.

"A Little Hope" is a perfect example of relevance. Who hasn't sat around wallowing in self pity and then had that wonderful feeling of knowing exactly what it is that will fix it? The “light bulb” moment has been perfectly encapsulated.

“I got a reason to smile right now

'Cuz I finally figured out what I gotta do”
Feeling the goodness now?

Next, poetic brilliance. It shines in bright "Won't Go Back Down" with lyrics like-

“Happy days are behind me

Stranger ones ahead

And I've never been so scared

Never been so content”

"Heavy Heart Heavy Hands" deals with a very heavy social problem in a sensitive and understanding manner. It distinguishes itself from other songs about the same topic by not pretending to understand or know how it feels to be in that situation. Sunday Lane merely talks about what is happening and is grateful for what she has had in life. This sort of sensitivity out to be praised loudly.

The final song on the album is perhaps my favourite. "Reckless One" is what I got caught on the train singing, and for good reason. A catchy lyric base topped with a piano and guitar mixed harmony that is free and delightful to any music listeners ears. Most importantly it is relevant to me, and anyone else who has ever been in a relationship I would think-

“You can be careful
And I'll be the reckless one
I'll get my heart broke
But someday I will find love”

Although one may have been on the wrong side of those lyrics on occasion...

Deep lyrics, music that hits all of the notes you expect it to, worth giving a chance and listening to.

Public humiliation not essential.

An Electrifying Edifice of Ebullient EP's Featuring Wheels on Fire, Lecherous Gaze, and The Queue,

Wheels On Fire – Cherry Bomb EP

Garage rock has always seemed like a broad, sweeping genre to me.  Spawning in the 1960s, it can range from anything to the raw sound of early punk to songs like “Louie, Louie”, a song that I could easily go the rest of my life without ever hearing again.  Thankfully, Wheels On Fire, hailing from Athens, OH, are clearly targeting the garage punk sound on their new EP, Cherry Bomb.  Using the same, fairly simple style found in the 60s, Wheels On Fire manage to bring a fresh sound to a garage scene that has been searching for someone to rise to the top, and they seem poised to do just that.

The EP opens up with “Black Wave”, which will immediately have you hooked right from the get go.  From an intro that slowly invites the listener in with a catchy guitar hook, then lyrics that will keep you riveted from start to finish.  The first time I was listening, I found myself repeating this song over and over,  which ended up becoming a recurring theme throughout the four songs.  The sound they invoke reminds me slightly of Black Lips songs like “It Feels Alright” or “Veni Vidi Vici”, with a distinct garage sound, yet a twinge of pop stirred in there, just to make it a little more interesting.

As far as this EP goes, the best song they offer up is “Broken Up”.  This song reminds me of mostly forgotten garage punkers like The Alarm Clocks or Banshees.  It just has that feel that makes you want to go digging through your old records combing for that Alarm Clocks 7-inch with “No Reason To Complain” and “Yeah” on it.  However, “Broken Up” kick a little more ass than either of those other songs, or any other song on this record, just by nature of being a little faster and slightly more aggressive.  I can not think of enough superlatives to say about this song, so just do yourself a favor and listen.  The last two songs, “Cherry Bomb” and “Go Give Yer Love Away”, are a little bit slower than the other two songs, but still essentially more of the same, still offering tons of energy despite the slower tempo.  I look forward to seeing what this band has to offer in future releases, not to mention hunting down their past stuff and giving it a listen through.

Lecherous Gaze - S/T EP

Lecherous Gaze's self-titled EP is a quick, four-track, fifteen-minute rocker, melding stoner rock and punkish themes. Actually I hear a bit of the classic era of punk hidden in there; British acts like The Clash and The Sex Pistols. It's partially in the muddled, over-exposed vocals, and part in the quick guitar and drum rhythms.

The EP seems to be split into two stylistic types; the first half - "Phaze" and "Sold" - fall solidly into the punk/stoner crossover I mentioned above. The licks are catchy and plentiful, the vocals are simple and quick (if not easily understood), reminding me of the 80s heyday of punk. The songs kind of blend into each other, and as I'm not a connoisseur of punk, not the high point of the disc for my ears.

The second half of the album - "Graveyard" and "R 'n' R Lust" - strike a different set of chords, ones more in my direction. "Graveyard" is a bluesy riff-heavy track, where the vocals are more intelligible. It is slower then the previous (although for the last minute of the song it speeds up drastically into a fade out) and gets your head bobbing with the energy behind the guitars.

The last track of the EP, "R 'n' R Lust" (I'm going to say that's short for Rock 'n' Roll Lust, based on the lyrics), is an old-fashioned 60s/70s rocker. It does contain a hint of the punk themes found int he first half of the disc, but this makes the song come off more as psychobilly then anything else. It's a nice ending to the should-have-been-a-LP EP.

Lecherous Gaze's debut EP shows the act's skills and potential. The four-song release crosses into at least three of the sub-genres of stoner rock, with great success in each. While I am a fan of the blues and rock 'n roll tracks more so then the punk ones, every song has some degree of merit. I've got one more track from the band, a Danava/Earthless/Lecherous Gaze three-way split, that I may just have to break into to see what direction that song is. I will be looking forward to their debut full-length, as the group shows major promise.

The Queue - Turn it up, Turn me on

Writing a perfect pop song is a lot harder than it may seem.  Sure there are some formulas to rely on, some old tricks to fall back on.  But if it was really that simple, that cookbook-ready to write a hit song, then everyone would do it.  No, in truth, there's a tremendous skill in making the hard seem simple.  Making the catchy seem routine.

Along those lines, The Queue have got it all lined up for their shot at radio domination.  They got the looks, they got the chops, and yes, they have the songs.  Turn it up, Turn me on is four perfect bite-sized morsels of pop perfection, each one with enough sweetness and meatiness to satisfy as rock and roll ear candy.  "Turn it up, Turn me on," begins the boys quest for the airwaves, literally, with a plea to turn up the radio and blast that Queue music around the world.   But without being too precious about it, the boys lace their plea with some truly tasty guitar chops and a non-stop feel good beat.  Sean Michael Mulligan is a perfect lead singer for their sound; modern sounding enough to catch the ears of the indy, but completely devoid of the annoying whine that seems to be so damn prevalent these days.   James Marshall Duich brings on some significant lead licks, while Mike Schiff and Aaron Bouslog make sure the song never lags.  Hey, this ain't rocket science, it's pop music, but I'll tell, The Queue manage to make the whole thing seem effortless.  This is the sort of feel good pop that makes the summer worthwhile.

While "Turn it Up," is the title track here, it's not my favorite song on the EP.  I prefer the way-cool, downtempo, acoustic intro building to the explosive big hook chorus of "Settle Down Your Gun."  The subdued vocals work real well here, then the band cranks it up a notch to full-on psych-garage-pop mayhem a la Oasis, or preferably Grand Atlantic.  This is the song I'll be cranking this summer as I drive the convertible Ripple Ghia to the beach.  "God Save The Queen" draws on a Beatles-esque opener before launching headlong into their "American Woman"-inspired guitar riff.  Meaty and muscular.  This is pop music I can get behind.  A big lead guitar riff, a touch of garage-psych fuzz, and enough melody to keep the young ones singing for days.  Reminds me of some of my favorite songs from the Morningstars.   In a club, I'm sure this songs cooks.

"You Against Me," rounds the EP out with another Guess Who-vibed platter of gentle pop confectionery.   A nice nod to the breadth these cats bring to the table.

NICKI MINAJ Look-Alike Contest Gone Wrong!!! Eww....

All of these women don't even come close enough for a look-alike contest. Why is it that a lot of BIG GIRLS always feel the need to look like their idols and instead of paying homage to their favorite star, they actually MOCK them and themselves??

Ladies and gentlemen around the world, I say that it was just a mess in this picture. You can CLEARLY see who's the real NICKI MINAJ.

The only ones that looks OK is the 3RD FROM THE LEFT and maybe, just maybe the 2ND FROM THE RIGHT. The one in the blue's body is tight (looks great) but she doesn't look like Nicki...

...And HEEEEERE's Nicki!!!!

Baller BRANDON JENNINGS and Rapper TEYANA TAYLOR Spotted At REVIVE

GRRR... and I missed; I didn't even know that Brandon Jennings and Teyana Taylor were in town in metro Detroit shopping for shoes at sneakerhead store REVIVE in Birmingham, MI. This was apparently news for Birmingham, news for Detroit sneakerheads, and news for me since I spotted the above picture.

I might pay REVIVE a visit and see what's up...

But check out the hot shoes both of them were wearing (WAIT-- I thought they broke up?? Maybe they're just friends now). Brandon Jennings was wearing Christian Louboutin suede studded sneakers for $1,095! Mmm... gotta have a pair--when they go on sale, and yes, these high-end labels DO go on sale. And Teyana Taylor was in the classic Air Jordan 3 Sneakers for about $150.

Man, it's gettin' warmer, and I'm not just talkin' about Spring's warm air front (finally reaching 70 degrees this weekend!).

Sneaker of the Day: Adidas Original x Jeremy Scott Sequined Sneakers

adidas Originals Metro Attitude Logo Black White Sequins

This is decidely a feminine take on the Jeremy Scott sneaker. This hott line of sneakers have been making new colorways back to back and I have to say that these are pretty cool; sequins almost never go out of style, depending on which clothing item it's placed on.

And I strongly believe that guys will wear these; I guess SEQUINS are not only for girls.

Anaal Nathrakh - Passion

The music of foul things best left undisturbed.

Passion is the soundtrack of the interior of Regan MacNeil's skull.

Passion is an audio snuff film.

Passion is Tarantino's Horror Movie: an obvious mash-up of other genres (black, industrial, electronic, dance, thrash, noise, ambient) and musical effects, that manages to still be unique and exciting... "Talent borrows, genius steals."

Passion is black metal survival horror.

Passion is industrial black metal (though the less-accurate blackened industrial sounds much cooler).

A philosopher once said the music of an age in turmoil is not soothing.

Passion is that music. Yet, disturbingly, is actually soothing... what does that say about us, as a people, or me in general?

First track, "Violenti Non Fit Iniuria": seems to open with background sounds that emerge as screams, whether real or not, run through a distortion pedal or board or just a bent bullhorn... the effect is lyrically psychotic and psychopathic, a singing monster well beyond its own mind... like Nero meets Denis Rader... DeSade's quite hummable love sonnets....

"Drug-Fucking Abomination": three minutes of (actually rather catchy) industrial grind, then with a chorus (as AN are wont to do) that's symphonic (a "chorus" of singers in high tones and in unison, not unlike Wagner or Grieg), but in a "Night on Bald Mountain" sense: there's that strange electric scream under the vocals, giving the whole piece a Satanic grandeur.

Ends with semi-orgasmic gasping over chewing sounds; suddenly cuts off. Make of that what you will.

"Post Traumatic Stress Euphoria," I love their titles. ("The Unbearable Filth of the Soul," from their last record, In the Constellation of the Black Widow? Fuggedabowdit.)

"Le Diabolique est L'Ami du Simple," double-bass drums programmed at around 300 bpm with genuine soaring (clean) operatic vocals overhead....

"Who Thinks of the Executioner," its gibbering madness, an even more aggro Ministry... as if Spiders had evolved fingers to play black metal....

If Behemoth is genuine rage recorded, Anaal Nathrakh is genuine madness, is genuine insanity, is what mental health professionals call a diagnosable mental disorder, almost certainly a psychotic disorder with comorbid diagnoses out the ass....

"Ashes Screaming Silence": (if wearing headphones) something walks through you (a genuinely disturbing trick with fading, from front left to rear right);  then at 2:51, whispers, from back to front, crescendo up to the bloody-throated screaming "...And that means something, doesn't it...? Doesn't it?!?!"

This song the best example of rage-cum-insanity-- a vivid depiction of the split, the schism, the break, emerged as articulate, into psychosis, the divorce from reality....

"Portrait of the Artist": explosions in background, warped radio broadcasts of symphonies in impossible keys-- some WWI flashback, a dying mud-crusted soldier tripping on mustard gas....

Passion doesn't really call for a review... more an informed consent.

the howling dementia of a patient screaming along with a symphony in the background the patient does not actually hear:

Lady Delight, or ENVY: MASHONDA In Body-Baring Sequined Dress + A Woman's Colorful Nails

Mashonda was spotted out with friends wearing a revealing purple and gold sequined dress with sheer cutouts on the sides. It was WAYY HOTT and had mothers covering their little boys' eyes when she was seen on the streets. The dress was done up RIGHT, RIGHT, RIGHT with gold platform pumps.

I bet SWIZZ BEATZ had a little side eye; I don't know, though. Alicia Keys is HOTTER than HOTT when she's in her game mode.

See more MASHONDA....

Also, these are some BOMB-ish fingernails (not Mashonda's nails) straight outta the '80s. Gotta love 'em, ladies. Man, I just love a beautiful woman and any woman who loves herself enough to stay beautiful...

NICKI MINAJ Does High-Fashion Shoot For ELLE's Music Issue!!

This woman never, EVER ceases to amaze me. It's just one photo shoot after another. Photographers can really admire NICKI MINAJ's tenacity, her natural beauty and funniness of how she portrays herself. When she's into her character of high-rise wigs and hip-hugging bodysuits, you can't help but to feel bubbly inside, like watching cartoons.

On the other hand, when NICKI MINAJ goes into her serious and graceful mode, like the one above.... Bet you lost track of what I was sayin'....

RENEE ZELLWEGER Rocks A Bold Red Trench Coat! It Takes Spunk and Know-How...

Like red lipstick returning, the bold look of RED is making a swift return to America. Bright colors once entered the market heavily in the '80s when women of all shades wore red lipstick (yes, I remember my mom and grandma doing the same thing). Now, here is actress Renee Zellweger who rocked a trench coat to an event in affiliation with Tommy Hilfiger.

This is quite the TOMMY HILFIGER look. Remember those days?? Aww... I remember my TOMMY days.

But anyway, I have to give a THUMBS UP to Renee because she pulled it off well. Even though the coat is bright red, it's simplistic in design and never is over-the-top. When you have something this bold, there's no need to add anything more; just make sure your other colors are near neutral (i.e. RED COAT w/ tan pants or jeans, shoes, accessories).

Fashion House Shake-Up: Christophe Decarnin of BALMAIN Is Dropped!!

Christophe Decarnin, chief designer for BALMAIN

You ever hear of this brand that charges $1,600 for jeans, $11,000 for blazers, and upwards of $21,000 for trashy-looking gowns???

Only BALMAIN can do this, with very few luxury fashion houses following closely behind.

Guess what? Ever since John Galliano (designer) got fired from Christian [DIOR] recently for making an anti-Semitic remarks, star designers like Christophe Decarnin (BALMAIN) started getting dropped from fashion houses like DOMINOES; it's not clear why, but I'll look more into it.

So what does it mean for BALMAIN in general?? Well the general population can't afford BALMAIN, but the popularity of the astronomical costs of the collection keep the fashion label on the radar, as well as its pricey clothes gracing celebrities like Rihanna, Beyonce, Jay-Z, Sir Elton John, the late Michael Jackson, and especially Kanye West. It'll be interesting to see where BALMAIN goes.

Groan – The Sleeping Wizard

This is what happens when unsupervised youth is allowed to fester in a basement of cheap beer, dirt weed and Cathedral tapes. Groan are a 4 piece doom metal outfit with members spread out across the UK but close enough to Stonehenge absorb some of its triptych wicked powers. The Sleeping Wizard is their debut. 7 songs in 26 minutes makes it either a short album or a long EP, take your pick.

Musically, Groan is in the tradition of Black Sabbath influenced bands like Candlemass, Electric Wizard, etc but include a bit more Hawkwind than usual and some straight up classic rock, too. They also have great stage names. Thor’s Hammer pounds the drums, The Riff Wizard is obviously the guitarist, Mazzareth is the singer and the bassist is The Forest-Dwelling Fuzz Creature. The production is low budget, but suits the band well. The songs are bashed out with gusto and Mazzareth’s vocals are swathed in a “Planet Caravan” gauze for an outer space effect. I was hoping he would yell “take me to your leader” in one song, but there’s always next time.

All 7 songs are very solid doom metal jams, but “Witchy Woman” is probably my favorite. Sounds like someone replaced Master of Reality on the stereo with Burn and it opened a new avenue for these guys. David Coverdale wishes he wrote “she rides the Pegasus, she makes the priest forget about Jesus” on his new album. Other highlights are the anti-work “Psychedelic Demons” and the rampaging “Sleeping Wizard.” “Ride Of The Antichrist” sounds like something Raven might have come up with in 1981 after a heavy dose of cough syrup. Most of the songs are pretty fast, but album closer “Ancient Space (Master Of Time)” moves at a Sleep-y snails pace.

If doom is your bag, then give these kids some support. Just think of the jams they’ll come up with if they can get better quality weeeeed. Get in on the ground floor and Groan.
